Find sperm donors

European Sperm Bank was founded in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2004. We recruit sperm donors in the UK, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands.

In 2023, we expanded our organisation to include egg banking as we launched an egg bank in the UK.

Making the dream of having a family come true for women and couples around the world is incredibly fulfilling. But we also recognise that our work has a long-term impact on everyone involved. That’s why we do our best to counsel and assist donor-conceived people, donors and parents. The same sense of responsibility is the reason why we have a family support programme to ensure that we support donor children as they grow up.

As an organisation rooted in the desire to help fulfil dreams, you will also find that we are warm and welcoming. We look forward to guiding you on your path to parenthood.

A responsible company

Our desire to be a responsible company also shows in our commitment to the UN sustainability goals. We manage our business activities in accordance with the 10 principles of human rights, labour, environment and gender equality.

As a licensed sperm bank in the EU and the United Kingdom, we have strict protocols and procedures to ensure that we follow all rules regarding national pregnancy limits and the guidelines outlined by the EU and WHO. For that reason, you can trust that we are professional to deal with in everything from your first conversation with us through to the delivery to your clinic.

Our donors

To ensure the best chance of pregnancy, we only approve donors who have excellent sperm quality.

All donors are approved by our Medical Director, a clinical genetic specialist, after completing a donor screening process that takes several months. The screening process vets the overall health of the donor candidates and disqualifies candidates with common hereditary diseases.

Delivery

There's no room for error when it comes to packaging and shipping donor sperm.

At European Sperm Bank, we monitor every step of the process closely. Prior to being shipped in the safest way possible, we make sure to carefully prepare your order for transit. Regardless of destination, you can count on us to keep your order safe.

All units of donor sperm are frozen in little plastic tubes - what we call straws - and placed in a container for transport. This container is kept cool using nitrogen vapour and is known as a 'dry shipper'. The advantage of nitrogen vapour over dry ice is that nitrogen vapour can maintain a steady temperature for weeks.

Family Limits

We always adhere to national legislation regarding the number of families in a given country that a donor's sperm can help.

On average, a donor helps 25 families worldwide. Since there is no international cap on the number of families a donor can help, we have set a worldwide cap of 75 families for our donors.

You can also choose a donor with a lower Family Limit.

Our commitment

Family support

As a sperm bank, we understand that what we do every day has a lasting impact on our customers and their future children.

That’s why we have a range of initiatives to support and guide parents and donor-conceived individuals. Our blog features advice on parenting a donor child, and our family support pages offer insight into the topics relevant to families created through donor conception.

Having a healthy child

At European Sperm Bank, donors are screened thoroughly to reduce the risk of sick children.

However, the genes of the prospective mother play an equal part in determining the health of a child. We're all carriers of genetic disease because our genes contain errors - or mutations. Even if we're not sick ourselves, our mutations can cause serious disease in our children.

To reduce this risk, we've developed GeneXmatch.

GeneXmatch screens for two types of genetic conditions by screening the genes of the person who will be carrying the child.

The test covers more than 400 serious genetic conditions. That way, you get an added sense of security during your pregnancy.
